In this workshop we had the pleasure to meet Andra Tanase, Peace Trainer, and Kai Frithjof Brand-Jacobsen, Director of PATRIR. Both speakers have a lot of experience in promoting peace at the national and international levels, especially in conflict zones. The concept of “Peacebuilding” was presented through the metaphorical perspective of a general surgeon. Just as a peacebuilder needs to know a little bit of surgery, pediatrics, cardiology, etc, the anatomy of the “Peace Building” is composed of 5 branches.

  1. The lack of violence
  2. Hard work
  3. Creativity
  4. Conciliation
  5. Action

The participants had the opportunity to verify their knowledge in this field and to create a new CV, based on what they learned in the workshop. This was done in groups, where everyone contributed with their own experiences. The participants came to the conclusion that the perfect CV In Peace Building has to embrace three elements: knowledge, experience and most importantly, skills and values.

At the end of the workshop, Kai and Andra told the participants about their own experiences abroad and they presented a new project that PATRIR is involved in – the platform “PeaceTraining.eu”. Those interested were invited to get involved in this project.

“The army can win a war but they can’t win peace. That’s why we try to win the peace,” were the words that concluded the workshop.

Promoting peace means a lot more than we envisioned. It means preparation, compassion and a lot of knowledge about the field. Knowledge and passion represent two strong weapons that we need to learn how to use to make the world a better place.
